After applying the GTO moniker to the high-performance version of the 599 GTB, Ferrari chose to revive another storied name from its past for the high-performance version of the F12 Berlinetta: Tour de France.

Dubbed F12tdf, Ferrari produced just 799 examples for its very best customers. The model pays homage to the Tour de France, the legendary endurance road race that the storied marque dominated in the 1950s and 1960s. The F12tdf represents a step forward in performance far beyond that of which the F12 Berlinetta is capable. Horsepower was raised to 769 bhp (from 730 bhp) and 242 lbs. of weight was dropped. It takes just 2.9 seconds to accelerate to 62 mph, and 124 mph will arrive precisely five seconds later.

The Tour de France rewarded cars that combined maximum performance with drivability. Accessibility of performance enabled competitors to race for hundreds of kilometers a day over fast, tortuous roads and on circuits. The F12tdf is, appropriately, the ultimate expression of the concept of an extreme road car that is equally at home on the track.

This F12tdf’s first owner took advantage of Ferrari’s factory Atelier and Tailor Made program in Maranello and created a unique and stunning example with almost every available option selected. As noted on the window sticker, the car is finished in “Extra Campionario” Azzurro La Plata Livrea with a tri-color Blu, Bianco, and Rosso stripe. The unique color scheme harks back to the Tour de France-winning 250 GT Berlinetta in the stunning shade of blue with hand-painted Scuderia Ferrari fender shields. The interior is equally lavish, trimmed in Alcantara with countless carbon fiber accents featured throughout. The carbon fiber options alone total approximately $39,000. An additional $46,673 of “other options” are also specified on the window sticker; presumably much of that cost covers the custom TdF livery.

Delivered new to Ferrari of San Diego, the F12tdf has since remained in virtually new condition throughout, having only been driven less than 200 miles. Additionally, the car’s factory warranty remains in place and is covered under the Ferrari Genuine Maintenance program until 2024. With that program, the car’s new owner is given peace of mind during routine servicing.

Without question the ultimate iteration of the F12 Berlinetta, the F12tdf currently reigns supreme in Ferrari hierarchy as the fastest, road-legal, front-engined Berlinetta. That said, it is truly a modern-day collectible that will continue to be held in high esteem by collectors and enthusiasts alike.

This F12tdf stands out from its peers thanks to its unique historical specification. There is no doubt that this is among the most beautifully sculpted and designed Ferraris, and this example pays great homage to its historic racing namesake.
